I’ve been thinking about the idea of contentment a lot recently. When do we have ‘enough’? If it feels hard to stop planning, fixing, and always wanting more, have some compassion for yourself. Working in the corporate world literally primes us for this – growth agendas, constant change, continuous improvement. It’s no wonder we struggle with contentment and mindfulness when we spend most of our working day working to change things rather than appreciating the present.
I heard this poem by Julia Fehrenbacher on one of Tara Brach’s podcasts and it stopped me in my tracks. I hope it provides some momentary space for you as well.
